How To Stay Active During The Holidays
Fact: We all look forward to setting our work email to holiday mode. After all, a change in scenery and a break from the usual 9-5 is essential to our well-being!
It’s challenging to maintain regular fitness routines during the holiday season. Catching up with friends and family, social events and even the cold weather can lead to new habits that may not align with our mental and physical needs.
3 Ways to stay active during the holidays
Even though it’s important to rest and recover properly, we don’t want to completely grind to a halt. The secret to keeping fit during the holidays is to find new and simple ways to stay active!
1. Take advantage of the outdoors
The holidays are the perfect time to rediscover the natural world. Find a park or trail and walk, run, hike, or cycle. It's a tried-and-true way to clear your mind, get moving and enjoy the beauty of your surroundings.
2. Join a fitness class
A fitness class or outdoor boot camp is a great way to stay accountable. Take a few minutes to research what’s happening in your area, sign up and show up. You may even pickup a few new friends along the way.
3. Use what you’ve got!
Whether you’re at home or travelling – resistance bands, a TRX or even a jump rope is all you need for a great workout. Speak with your coach for a workout routine that fits your needs, goals and holiday schedule.
Aim for a 1-hour workout, three times per week. This will maintain your fitness levels so you can easily resume your training after the holidays.
The key is to keep your holiday workouts simple and fun. Sweat – but don’t sweat the small stuff!
